Chicago - Light and Lines

I recently had the opportunity for a couple of morning walks through Chicago. I didn’t have my mirrorless kit along on this trip so I relied on my iPhone to capture the sights.

Glass, steel, brick, and reflections - Chicago has a way of simplifying scenes into lines and contrast, which makes it a natural fit for shooting light and moving quickly.

Here are a few of my favorites from this trip. The best images came from simply paying attention to how light interacted with a building, or how reflections shifted with a few steps in either direction. Small adjustments, quick experiments, different results. It’s a reminder that even in a city this big, the details can make the image.

If you’re interested in how I approach shooting with an iPhone while traveling, I shared a few thoughts in an earlier post.
